Well… it’s always bunny season around here! The sun is staying out longer, Easter is creeping up on the calendar, and we have the perfect piece to match the energy of the season. Introducing a new limited edition print of ‘Bunny Girl’ by Tara McPherson. Originally a standout oil painting from her legendary Bunny In The Moon exhibition, this print is a joyful celebration of a girl and her bunnies. It’s an image that captures pure playful affection and reminds us to find our joy and hold it tight.
We are also thrilled to be celebrating 15 years in business as an art gallery and retail print shop!! We opened The Cotton Candy Machine in 2011 in Brooklyn, NY, in an old fire station turned gallery. Over the years, we’ve grown, evolved, and adapted... from exhibiting a full roster of contemporary artists, to highlighting Tara McPherson's exquisite art, to doing special pop up shops. While we no longer have a brick and mortar gallery space, our mission remains the same: to offer inspiring artwork to collectors and art admirers around the world. In 2008 Ray-Ban collaborated with Marie Claire Magazine and five prominent underground artists in New York City for the Project Colorize Campaign in celebration of the launch of their Wayfarer Color Collection. The Bunny Riders was Tara McPherson's contribution to Project Colorize and was featured on a giant billboard in New York City. "The event that inspired the title of this painting as well as the theme of the 'Bunny in the Moon' show, and the first time I was struck with the realization of the huge diversity in social perspectives, was while I was in Japan having a dinner with some new friends. We somehow began discussing the moon and I mentioned the man in the moon. My Japanese friend looked at me with this quizzical face and said "A man in the moon? You mean the bunny in the moon don't you?". My face lit up at the notion that when we all look at the moon, people in Japan see a bunny! The legend, in a nutshell, is about the bunny that sacrificed his life to feed a starving man that was actually a deity in disguise. In homage to the selflessness the bunny showed, the deity made his ashes fly up to the moon so all could remember his image and act for ages to come. So in revisiting and evolving that infamous legend and how the ultimate sacrifice of a life, can be equated to the trials of love. To give yourself to someone so completely and selflessly, and will they love you back? Will they write you a love letter over your heart, or will they use it as a target?" - Tara McPherson.
